LG Chairman Re-assures Of Zero Tolerance To Drug Abuse

BY MONICA OGBAUDU

THE Chairman, Isoko South Local Government, Comrade Warri  Ovoke Friday has re-assured his administration’s zero tolerance to drug abuse and other social vices.

He made the declaration during the local government security meeting held at James Ekpre Otobo hall in the council premises, adding that his administration remained resolute in its anti-drug stance, stemming from the establishment of the state drug control committee.

According to him, the local government was in collaboration with concerned agencies on a massive manhunt for drug dealers to ensure that Isoko South was rid of illicit drugs. “If you are selling hard drugs, look for an alternative business because we are going to clampdown on dealers”. “Those selling illicit substances are the greatest enemies of our society. We already have so many young people, who are terribly unstable and I’m determined to nip it in the bud so as to forestall further devastating effects. I have the mandate to serve the Isoko South people and l will not shy away from my duty to them”.

He urged youths to steer clear of drugs and other destructive behaviours, while appealing to parents,  presidents-general, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders  to nurture a responsible and drug-free generation, emphasizing that the future of the society depended on the values instilled in our children in line with godly principles.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Ovie of Emede kingdom, Johnson Egbo noted the campaign against drug abuse was a welcome development, while he pledged to pass on the message.

While responding to an earlier call by the council boss encouraging people to come home for the ongoing voters registration, the President-General of Irri clan, Chief Adonis Ubuwere, however, enjoined the political class to also return home and lead the sensitization.

Mr. Josiah Omenuwoma, who spoke on behalf of the youths, urged the local government chairman to declare a state of emergency on drug abuse in Isoko South.
