THE Association of the Justices of the Peace, Delta State, has appealed to Deltans and Nigerians at large to sustain existing peace at all times for the benefit of all.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the Association’s State President, Sir Chief Sam Odjoji (JP), and co-signed by the General Secretary, Chief Dr F. E. Adaka (JP), and the Public Relations Officer, Chief Donatus Ozegbe (JP), to mark the International Peace Day celebration.
Emphasising the imperative of peace in the state and the country, the statement reads in part: “If peace is expensive, try war. The difference will be clear.”
With peace in the state and country, Chief Odjoji said, meaningful development and growth would follow, as no society, country, or state can achieve progress in an atmosphere of war or rancour.
He warned, “Nigeria cannot afford to fight another civil war; therefore, those who are fanning the embers of crisis or war should have a rethink. No matter the differences or disagreements, dialogue is the best approach to achieving peace. War is costly. It does no one any good.”
In Delta State, he appealed to citizens to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration’s peace initiative, as encapsulated in his MORE Agenda.
That way, he said, the state would be able to sustain and consolidate the peace already achieved by the administration. “As brothers and sisters, let us endeavour to continue to live in peace and love because there is no alternative to it,” Chief Odjoji added.
