Illegal Land Dealings In Udu Will Face Criminal Sanctions —Chairman

BY SAM DUVWODE

The Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Hon. Vincent Oyibode, has cautioned that he will take decisive action against individuals and groups involved in the illegal sale of government lands allocated to public schools in Udu Local Government Area.

Hon. Oyibode issued the warning recently while addressing a lingering land dispute in Oleri Community, describing the unauthorized sale of such lands as a criminal act that undermines the development of educational infrastructure.

He expressed concern over reports of certain individuals selling portions of land designated for public schools, which he said threatens the future expansion of these facilities.

According to him, “Any person caught selling or encroaching on government-owned lands, particularly those allocated to schools, will be treated as a criminal.”

He assured that such lands would be reclaimed immediately, and offenders would face prosecution by security agencies.

The Local Government Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting government assets and maintaining transparency in land management.

He urged community leaders and land committees to refrain from supporting or approving illegal land transactions and encouraged stakeholders to report suspicious activities to the council or relevant authorities.

Hon. Oyibode emphasised his resolve to promote peace and order across all communities in Udu, affirming, “The era of impunity and reckless land dealings is over.” He noted that his administration will continue to prioritise the collective interest of the people while ensuring accountability and transparency in governance.

The warning has been welcomed by residents, with the current acting leadership of Oleri Community, led by Pa Michael Kokoye, assuring that the community will put all necessary machinery in place to reclaim all community land sold illegally, with the hope of curbing unlawful land dealings and protecting public assets for future generations.
