This Weekend Pointer Guest is the Delta State Chairman of Association of Registered Political Parties (ARPP), Comrade Godwin Omorovwon. He is a politician, community leader and grassroots mobiliser. He also has interest in community development and security of the people.
Our man, Ifeanyi Omenogor, spoke with him recently on some political issues, development strides of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the 2027 general elections and other matters as they affect the state and country at large. Happy reading.
Sir, let start with your group, the ARPP, can you tell us more about it?
As the name goes, it is an association of registered political parties in the state. We have a national body also. Our aims and objectives mainly are to ensure that political parties elect persons that would help transform society. And once elections are over, we help to proffer solutions that can enhance good governance and make sure dividends of democracy get to the people.
How is ARPP faring in Delta State?
Here in Delta State, the association is doing well. There are no crises; we are united, peaceful and focused. We are doing our best to ensure good governance and ensure that dividends of democracy are delivered to our people.
What is the relationship between the body and the Delta State Government?
We have a robust relationship with the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and other arms of government, and we are happy that the governor is doing well.
When you say the governor is doing well, what do you mean? Can you list some of his achievements?
Yes, the achievements of the administration are many, but let me just list the most recent ones. And that is the recent approval of multi-billion naira projects in Ughelli, Agbor and other parts of the state. The Asaba-Ughelli dualisation, the flyover projects in Warri and Effurun, road projects littered across the three senatorial districts, the development of the education sector, and prompt payment of salaries to civil servants, among others too numerous to mention here now.
With all these things you just mentioned, how will you describe the governor?
Thank you for this question. From the achievements of the governor in just two years-plus in office, it is a clear indication that he was well-prepared to govern. He is a detribalized leader, a workaholic, prudent manager of resources and had not borrowed money. The spread of development projects and his street credibility have already endeared him to the hearts of Deltans and other residents of the state. You can see massive projects of the Governor across all parts of the state, these projects are massive as I said before and are already speaking great for him. In fact, the governor had already ignited the greatness Delta is known for with massive achievements and good governance.
From what you just said now, what do have to say about the chances of the governor come 2027 general elections?
As I said before, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has secured his second tenure with laudable achievements and good governance. Deltans are already enjoying more prosperity under Governor Oborevwori’s administration, while the MORE Agenda in synergy with Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu has attracted enviable transformation to Deltans.
And we are expecting more democratic dividends from this administration because we are not just hearing it, but seeing things on ground.
What do you have to say about the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori’s administration?
I can say that the MORE Agenda has brought more development, youth empowerment, inclusiveness, peace, unity among the people of the state, so, we can only expect more from the governor, in fact he has made Deltans proud.
Now, do you have any message for ARPP members in the state?
Yes, I will call on them to be united, peaceful and focus and support the governor to ensure the MORE Agenda of the administration succeeds. Members of ARPP will continue to work assiduously for Governor Oborevwori, come 2027, to ensure landslide victory for him.
Generally, any message for Deltans?
My message to Deltans is to continue to support Governor Oborevwori to bring more development in the state, maintain peace, unity and do those things that will ignite the greatness in us.
