TWO children have been reportedly swept away by flood at Ala-Ife road, in Uli community, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, following a heavy torrential rainfall in the area.
According to reports, the road is now a death trap which required urgent government intervention to avert further flood and erosion devastations in the community.
The poor state of the road revealed that the people living along Ala-Ife road have been suffering for years as vehicles can no longer access the road even though they have written several letters to the Ihiala Local Government authority for urgent remedial actions.
It was gathered that the heavy downpour in the area resulted in the loss of two children who were swept away by the ravaging flood due to lack of drainage channels on both sides of the road.
According to an eyewitness, children do not go to school whenever it rains since the road becomes completely impassable on such occasions.
He appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to come to the aid of Ihiala Local Government Area, especially those living along Ala-Ife road because they are completely helpless.
