HEAVY rainfall has submerged major roads in Onicha-Uku, Ishiekpe, and Orientation Camp areas, disrupting vehicular movements, trapping residents and flooding several homes along affected roads, with residents scooping water from their properties.
Speaking with our correspondent, one of the residents, Mr. John Okolie, noted that recurring floods result from blocked drainage systems caused by indiscriminate waste dumping.
“The waste blocks drainages, causing overflow that damages roads and creates potholes,” he said.
Okolie appealed to the state government for road reconstruction and urged residents to stop dumping refuse in drainage channels.
Another resident, Mr. Godwin Anoliefo called for government intervention, noting that businesses close during heavy rains due to flooding.
He lamented that residents were unable to operate due to flood submerging their shops, calling on the government to rehabilitate the roads and enforce environmental laws.
