First Lady Reaffirms Commitment To Inclusive Education

…Distributes Learning Aids To Special Needs Schools

WIFE of Delta State Governor, Dea­coness Tobore Oborevworri, yesterday, distributed learning aids to two schools for chil­dren with special needs in the state as part of ef­forts to promote inclusive education and improve teaching and learning outcomes among vulner­able pupils.

Deaconess Oborev­wori, while addressing pupils, teachers and stakeholders at Abuanor Primary School, Ogwashi-Uku, stated that the pre­sentation of learning aids formed the core purpose of her visit, noting that children with special needs required tailored educational materials to enhance comprehension, confidence and overall development.

She explained that the intervention was aimed at bridging learning gaps and supporting teachers in delivering effective instruc­tion.

The First Lady empha­sized that her administra­tion, through the You Matter Charity Foundation, would continue to identify and re­spond to the needs of special children across the state.

She reaffirmed her com­mitment to ensuring safe learning environments; ad­equate infrastructure and the provision of essential educational tools to enable every child thrive, regard­less of physical or learning challenges.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Bethel Uzumefune, expressed deep appreciation to the gover­nor’s wife for selecting the school for the intervention.

She described Abuanor Primary School, founded in 1904 and formerly known as St. Peter’s School, as one of the oldest educational in­stitutions in Delta State and a UNICEF-designated centre that has produced men and women of great repute.

Mrs Uzumefune highlight­ed the increasing number of physically-challenged pupils in the school and stressed the urgent need for teaching aids, specialized teachers, improved classroom facili­ties and enhanced security, adding that the learning ma­terials donated would signifi­cantly improve instructional delivery.

At Martin Special Edu­cation Primary School, Is­sele-Uku, the Principal, Mrs Isioma Odogbo, commended Deaconess Oborevwori for her compassion and practi­cal support for children with special needs.

She noted that the dona­tion of learning aids would go a long way in addressing some of the challenges faced by the school, particularly in teaching pupils with diverse learning needs.

Mrs. Odogbo described the visit as timely and reas­suring, assuring that the ma­terials would be judiciously utilized for the benefit of the pupils.

In his remarks, the Chair­man, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SU­BEB), Mr. Samuel Mariere, thanked the governor’s wife for prioritizing special needs education and for comple­menting government efforts through targeted interven­tions.

He noted that the dis­tribution of learning aids would enhance the quality of teaching in both schools and pledged SUBEB’s continued collaboration in strengthen­ing basic education across the state.

The Permanent Secre­tary, SUBEB, Sir Baron Unini, expressed gratitud for her sustained commitment to education and the welfare of special children.

He assured that the min­istry would follow up on the issues raised during the visit, while thanking school administrators, teachers and parents for their cooperation and support.

The visit ended with the presentation of learning aids to both schools and ex­pressions of joy from pupils, teachers and parents, who described the intervention as a major boost to special needs education in the area.
