Ezewu Urges Parents, Teachers To Support Measles, Rubella Vaccination In Delta

BY JUMAI NWACHUKWU

THE Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu has called on parents, guardians and teachers across the state to ensure that their children and wards participate in the ongoing Measles and Rubella vaccination exercise.

Mrs. Ezewu made the call while speaking on the importance of safeguarding the health of school-aged children, stressing that the vaccination is currently being conducted in schools and health centres across Delta State.

According to her, the immunisation exercise was aimed at protecting children from measles and rubella, two highly contagious diseases that pose serious health risks if not properly prevented.

The 10-day catch-up campaign, which will run from January 31 to February 9, targets children aged nine months to 14 years across the state. Health authorities say the initiative is a critical step toward strengthening child health and preventing long-term complications associated with measles and rubella.

Ezewu noted that the combined measles–rubella vaccine would ensure comprehensive protection for children, particularly girls, helping to prevent infections that may have health consequences later in life.

She emphasized the role of teachers and school administrators in mobilising pupils and encouraging parents to give consent for their children to be vaccinated, noting that schools serve as critical platforms for reaching a large number of children within a short period.

Ezewu also appealed to parents and caregivers to cooperate with health officials by presenting their children and wards for the exercise, assuring them that the vaccines are safe and effective.

The commissioner reiterated the Delta State Government’s commitment to promoting child health and preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, urging all stakeholders to support the vaccination campaign for the overall well-being of children across the state.
