Ezewu Reaffirms Ministry’s Commitment To Innovation, Skill Acquisition

By JUMAI NWACHUKWU

THE Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu  has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to promoting creativity, innovation and skill acquisition among pupils at the foundational level of education.

Ezewu made this known during the maiden edition of the Public Primary Schools Cooking Competition, describing the initiative as part of the ministry’s drive to “catch them young” in line with the More Agenda of the Delta State Government.

According to her, the competition was designed to encourage creativity and innovation among pupils while exposing them to practical skills beyond conventional classroom learning. She stressed that education, in its true sense, goes beyond the reading of textbooks and should involve the development of the child’s mind, hands and imagination. “The cooking competition is aimed at nurturing creativity and practical abilities in pupils, helping them to discover and develop talents that may not be evident in purely academic activities,” the commissioner said.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of Science Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor, commended the initiative, noting that it would enhance the cognitive development of young learners. She emphasized that education should not be limited to academic excellence alone, adding that there was a need to identify and nurture vocational talents from an early age.

The competition ended with New Era Primary School, Okpanam, emerging first, while Ahabam Primary School and Uzoigwe Primary School, both in Asaba, took second and third positions, respectively.
