The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu JP, has flagged-off workshop for the development of 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) test item, describing the event as a strategic step toward ensuring the credibility and quality of test items for the 2026 BECE.
Speaking at the opening ceremony the Commissioner explained that the exercise is designed to guarantee that all examination items are reliable, valid, and strictly aligned with the approved school curriculum.
She noted that the workshop provides a platform for experienced teachers and subject specialists to critically review past questions and develop new ones, thereby strengthening the state’s question bank.
Ezewu urged participants to draw from their professional expertise in setting questions that adequately cover the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of learning, stressing that the goal is to produce items that accurately assess students’ learning outcomes.
She further disclosed that participants were carefully selected based on their proven competence, integrity, and dedication, while charging them to uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical conduct throughout the exercise.
The Commissioner commended the resource persons and subject specialists for their consistent contributions to the success of previous workshops and expressed confidence in their capacity to deliver quality outcomes. She wished all participants a fruitful deliberation and safe return to their respective destinations at the conclusion of the workshop.
The workshop reaffirmed Delta State’s commitment to maintaining a credible, standardized, and effective examination process for junior secondary school students.
