Embrace Civic Responsibility, Ezewu Urges Youths At Leadership Clinic

THE Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has charged Nigerian youths to embrace civic responsibility and ethical leadership as a foundation for building a responsible, visionary, and patriotic society.

Delivering a goodwill message at the one-day Youth Leaders’ Clinic held at Dennis Osadebe University (DOU), Asaba, Mrs. Ezewu described the gathering as a timely and significant step towards grooming future leaders. The programme, organized by the Abuja Leadership Centre in collaboration with the TETFUND Centre of Excellence in Public Governance and Leadership, University of Abuja, has as its theme:  “Empowering the Next Generation Leaders.” It brought together senior prefects and student leaders drawn from schools across the state.

The commissioner commended the organizers for what she termed a laudable initiative, noting that the chosen topic, “Citizenship and Civic Responsibility,” could not have been more appropriate. She explained that at a time when Nigeria was in dire need of responsible and service-driven leaders, engagements of this kind are vital in shaping the mind-set, discipline, and moral compass of young people.

Speaking directly to the student leaders, Mrs. Ezewu reminded them that they carry the voices and aspirations of their peers. She urged them to take advantage of the clinic to deepen their understanding of civic duties, accountability, and ethical leadership. She encouraged them to listen attentively, participate actively, and return to their schools with the lessons and values acquired, stressing that true leadership begins with service and is best demonstrated through positive contributions to schools, communities, and the nation at large.

She reiterated government’s commitment to supporting programmes that nurture leadership capacity and civic consciousness among students. She assured that the Ministry remained steadfast in its mission to produce disciplined, informed, and future-ready leaders for Delta State and Nigeria.
