THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sapele Unit has held an ember months campaign town hall Meeting, at the Sapele Council Legislative Chambers.

The event, with the theme “Road Safety is a Shared Responsibility,” brought together representatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Navy, Police, Civil Defence, Immigration, VIO, National youth council NYC alongside transport unions and community leaders.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman, Sapele Local Government Area, Chief Bright Abeke, represented by Secretary to Local Government, Hon. Raymond Overah, commended FRSC for its consistent efforts in promoting road safety.

He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting initiatives that safeguard lives, urging transport operators to desist from employing drivers of questionable character, particularly those who indulge in alcohol.

During the interactive session, key safety messages and statistics were projected on the chamber wall to visually highlight the causes of road crashes and preventive measures, keeping the audience fully engaged.

The keynote speakers identified human, mechanical and environmental factors as major causes of road accidents, stressing the need for responsible driving and proper vehicle maintenance.

Stakeholders resolved that driving under the influence of alcohol should not be tolerated, while vehicle owners must avoid using mechanically defective vehicles. Other resolutions was that road safety should be a shared responsibility among all road users, while seat belt use and passenger safety must be prioritized.

Participants pledged continued collaboration with the FRSC and promised to extend the campaign’s message to their communities.
