THE Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its ban on all Durbar activities during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, citing unresolved security threats. In a statement isued alongside other security agencies, the command said credible intelligence suggests that miscreants plan to hijack the celebrations, as witnessed during the last Eid.
Despite a recent circular from the Kano Emirate Council inviting traditional leaders and horsemen for the annual Sallah Durbar, the police emphasised that the ban remains in place across the state. Restrictions include a prohibition on horse riding, car racing, reckless driving, and unlawful possession of weapons.
The command urged parents to warn their children against being used by subversive elements and called on residents to observe Eid peacefully, praying for the state’s progress and mourning the athletes recently lost in a road accident. The police assured that security forces will strictly enforce all safety directives.
The police ban contradicts the Emirate Council’s earlier notice, which detailed plans for the Durbar on June 4, with a formal audience before the Emir on June 5. The council also announced preparations with local authorities to facilitate the event, creating a potential standoff between tradition and security enforcement.
Adamawa Begins Payment Of N70,000 Minimum Wage To LG Workers
ADAMAWA State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has initiated payment of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage to all local government employees across the state.
The decision, aimed at boosting the welfare of grassroots workers, was the highlight of a courtesy visit from the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) leadership, who commended the governor for prioritising labour welfare.
During the visit, NULGE commended Governor Fintiri’s commitment to improving workers’ conditions and applauded the state for setting a positive example in labour relations. In response, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to raising living standards for all public servants in Adamawa.

Seven Child Victims Found In Mokwa Flood As Search Still Ongoing
SEVEN more children’s bodies were recovered on Monday and Tuesday in Mokwa, six days after devastating floods hit Mokwa town in Niger State, bringing the official death toll to 160.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) said locals helped retrieve the decomposing bodies buried under debris, with four found and two more discovered along the Mokwa–Raba axis. Villagers aided in digging out corpses to prevent disease outbreaks, though some victims were swept into the River Niger and remain unrecovered.
The Niger State’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Ahmad Suleiman, said that over 200 bodies have now been recovered, with many more still missing. An 18-seater commercial bus travelling north was also swept away by the floodwaters, and neither the vehicle nor its passengers have been located. Residents reported watching homes and family members vanish in the torrent, while the collapse of the Mokwa bridge has left food trucks stranded and hampered supply routes to southern markets.
The Northern Elders Forum echoed calls for urgent government action, urging a coordinated response that includes relocation of vulnerable communities, strengthened drainage infrastructure, and enforcement of land-use regulations to prevent future disasters.
