DTSG Won’t Tolerate Delay, Poor Projects —Aniagwu

THE Delta State Government has cautioned contractors and project supervisors in-charge of road projects in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state to desist from poor quality work or delayed projects in order not to lose contract awarded to them

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, gave the warning recently during an inspection tour of several ongoing road projects in the council area.

Aniagwu said the state would not tolerate contractors who collect mobilization funds and fail to deliver according to agreed timelines and specifications.

He noted that contractors receive about 40 per cent mobilization immediately after contract award and therefore have no justification for slow progress.

According to him, the Oborevwori administration has maintained a record of prompt payment once work certificates are submitted, adding that the government expects contractors to match that commitment with quality delivery.

Aniagwu warned that firms that fail to improve their pace of work could have their contracts terminated and reassigned to more competent contractors.

He also cautioned engineers and other officials responsible for supervising the projects against approving payments for work that had not been properly executed.

The commissioner said any officer found certifying uncompleted or substandard work would be compelled to refund the money and could face disciplinary action, including dismissal from service.

Aniagwu commended the contractor handling the Etua road project for maintaining visible progress but expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on some other projects.

He directed the contractor handling the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road to speed up work and complete the project within the next six weeks.

He also warned that the Eweshi–Utagba-Uno Road project could face revocation if the current pace of work does not improve.
