THE Delta State Government, through the Ministry of Youth Development, has nullified the July 5, 2025, election of the executive members of Onicha-Ugbo Youth Council, citing widespread irregularities and procedural violations.
This was made known in an official statement signed by Mr. Ogagan Aghogho on behalf of the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Trakiriowei.
The statement, which was addressed to the traditional ruler of Onicha-Ugbo, His Royal Highness Obi Victor Chukwumaleze I, followed a formal complaint by concerned youths of the community.
According to the ministry, the election process was marred by multiple irregularities including lack of transparency, voter disenfranchisement, bias, and failure to follow due electoral procedures.
The ministry disclosed that prior to the controversial election; these issues were brought to the attention of the commissioner prior to the election, who in turn, advised both the chairman of the local government and the Director of the State Security Service to suspend the election.
In light of these developments, the ministry has pledged to collaborate with key stakeholders, including, the traditional ruler, President-General of Onicha-Ugbo, the local government Chairman, security agencies, and other relevant bodies to ensure that a fresh, credible and peaceful election is conducted.
The ministry added that details of a new date for the election will be announced in due course.
