DTSG Intensifies Profiling Campaign For Motorcycle, Tricycle Riders

THE Delta State Government has intensified its profiling and identification campaign for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, extending the sensitisation drive to cities across the state.

The awareness campaign, which began in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, targets various motorcycle and tricycle parks to educate riders on the need to obtain the required items for security profiling.

Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Vincent Omoniyi, said the initiative was part of efforts to enhance security in the state, noting that all riders were expected to acquire riders’ cards, aprons, emblems, and stickers.

According to Agofure, the sensitisation exercise will also enforce provisions of Law M7, which required each rider to be identifiable through their apron, QR code sticker, rider’s card, and identification code on their motorcycles or tricycles.

He urged riders to obtain the items from the Commercial Motorcycles and Tricycles Operators Association (COMTOA) offices statewide, noting that the government has subsidised the cost to ₦7,500 to ensure affordability.

The commissioner stressed that genuine operators who comply with the directive were less likely to be involved in criminal activities. He warned that defaulters risk having their motorcycles and tricycles impounded by the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), security agencies, and COMTOA Task Force after a two-week grace period.

Agofure further affirmed the Directorate of Transport’s recognition of COMTOA as the sole motorcycle and tricycle association in Delta State.

The Chairman of COMTOA, Chief Obi Nzete, represented by the State Treasurer, Comrade Prince Miller, commended the state government for the initiative and pledged the association’s commitment to ensuring compliance among riders.

Also present at the campaign were the Director of Vehicle Inspection, Engr. Vincent Ehiwario; Special Adviser to the Commissioner, Engr. Victor Odeiti; Director of Administration, Mr. Francis Ohawah; Deputy Director of Vehicle Inspection, Mr. Joseph Ginibo; Directorate of Mechanical Service, Engr. Kingsley Itimi; and other officials of the Directorate.
