THE Delta State Government has cautioned motorists and street traders operating around the Koka area of Asaba, urging them to stop parking along the roads while loading their vehicles and to desist from street trading. Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriodeb Agofure said the state government has mandated a committee to ensure that the Koka axis remains free from street trading and indiscriminate roadside loading.
Agofure represented by the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Transport, Engr. Victor Omoniyi, who led the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the exercise, emphasized that motorists must load their vehicles only at designated parks to ensure the safety of passengers and promote orderly movement within the state capital.
According to him, boarding vehicles at approved parks is an important safety measure and part of the government’s effort to maintain sanity and environmental cleanliness.
Director of Urban Development, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, Mr. Okoro Godwin, who represented his commissioner, expressed the state government’s displeasure over the misuse of public infrastructure.
He urged residents to learn to use government properties responsibly, adding that dropping passengers along the road poses safety risks and should be discontinued.
He further advised motorists to always use designated parks when picking up or dropping off passengers, as this ensures orderliness and reduces hazards on the highways.
The Delta State Government reaffirmed its commitment to creating a clean, safe and organized environment for all residents and visitors in the state capital.
