IN a move aimed at strengthening the justice system in Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the renovation of 42 courts and the construction of residential quarters for judges across the state.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole disclosed this during the post-Executive Council briefing held at Government House, Asaba.
According to him, the renovation project will cover 16 Customary Courts and 26 Magistrates’ Courts across Delta State, while the Executive Council also approved the construction of 10 residential quarters with auxiliary facilities for judges.
He explained that five of the judges’ quarters will be located in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area, while the remaining five will be built in Asaba, the state capital.
Ohwovoriole noted that the approvals align with Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to reposition the judiciary and sustain its role as the last hope of the common man.
He added that the initiative is designed to improve the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers, while also strengthening the justice delivery system in the state.
The development is expected to significantly enhance access to justice and bring the administration of justice closer to the people of Delta State.
