IN a renewed effort to expand access to quality healthcare, the Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, has flagged off the registration of 250 residents of Ibusa community into the Indigent Enrollees Adoption Initiative (IEAI).
The initiative, sponsored by the Nkpayala Family Union in the United States of America (USA), is aimed at supporting indigent members of the community to enjoy free healthcare coverage under the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Akpoveta commended the sponsors for their generosity, describing the initiative as “more than charity, but an investment in human dignity.” He explained that the DSCHC remained committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the state, ensuring that no resident was denied access to healthcare due to financial constraints.
“The provision and delivery of quality healthcare services is a journey toward Universal Health Coverage,” Akpoveta stated. “Our goal is to make sure at least 60 percent of Deltans have access to affordable and quality healthcare without suffering financial hardship.”
He praised the Nkpayala Family Union for setting “a shining example of kindness that lights the path for others,” adding that their contribution would be remembered not only in Ibusa but across Delta State as a model for community-driven development.
Dr. Akpoveta also called on other well-meaning individuals and Deltans in the diaspora to emulate the gesture by supporting similar programs that promote equitable access to healthcare.
In his remarks, the Diokpa of Nkpayala, Mr. Benedict Isoh, who represented the sponsors, expressed appreciation to the state government for initiating the contributory health scheme, noting that the program has brought hope to vulnerable groups.
“We are very impressed by the vision of the Delta State Government and the Contributory Health Commission,” Isoh said, adding that “We assure you that we will continue to be good ambassadors of this program when we return to the United States”.
