A fuel attendant engaged by a filling station has died in his office after allegedly ingesting a liquid substance suspected to be Sniper insecticide.
The deceased, identified as Daniel Anthony, reportedly died over his inability to account for ₦700,000 allegedly taken from the company.
According to sources “the deceased was the manager of the filling station, located at Ekiugbo community in Ughelli North, until he was demoted to fuel attendant.
“The deceased allegedly misappropriated the sum of ₦700,000 belonging to the company. When the Managing Director became aware, he intended to sack and arrest him, but after pleas, he was spared. Instead, he was demoted from manager to fuel attendant, with an agreement that the money would be deducted from his monthly salary.
“After the agreement, he continued working at the station. However, before the staff resumed one morning, they discovered his lifeless body in the office with a can of Sniper beside him.
“We could not ascertain what transpired after the issues had been amicably resolved. The incident was reported at the Ughelli Area Command, so the police are currently investigating to unravel the cause of his death.”
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, could not confirm the incident. Calls and messages to his phone were neither answered nor returned at the time of filing this report.
