Delta’s First Private Dialysis Centre Set For Another Kidney Transplant

… Appeals For Govt Assistance

All hope is not lost for those with kidney diseases in Delta State and beyond, as Mount Horeb Clinic and Dialysis Centre, located in Warri, has concluded plans to record yet another medical milestone in kidney transplant.

The first was done in September 2025, and the patient is currently hale and hearty, while the second will be coming up in about two months from now.

Making this known to The Pointer in an exclusive interview, a Consultant Nephrologist and Medical Director/CEO, Mount Horeb Clinic and Dialysis Centre, Dr. Raph Onyemekeihia said that the first feat stood them out as the first private Clinic to operate a dialysis Centre in Delta State, and the first private health centre to carry out a successful kidney transplant in Delta, Bayelsa, and parts of Edo State.

He attributed the success of the first kidney transplant at the centre to a collaborative effort between qualified and experienced Nephrologists in Warri, experienced Indian transplant Surgeons, high-quality, efficient, and committed staff, and equipment.

For the second batch of transplant, Dr Onyemekeihia advised prospective persons with kidney diseases to key in early, because patients at the centre were batched.

‘’You cannot just walk in and get it done immediately. We must batch them because we bring in expatriates whose flight, hotel accommodation, and allowances must be paid,” he said.

“We also had encouragement from the Esther Matthew Tonlagha (EMT) Foundation by their magnanimous donation of a brand new X-ray machine, and other medical equipment.”

While passionately appealing for the Delta State Government’s assistance to the centre, and in particular, towards the success of the upcoming kidney transplant because of the huge financial involvement and burden on the patients, and the centre, Dr Onyemekeihia said, the State government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, should sponsor patients or subsidise part of the cost of the transplant.

“We are looking forward to the Delta State Government’s support in this direction,” he said, adding that this would better position the Centre to save the lives of persons with kidney diseases in the State, and in particular, make the second batch of transplants at the Centre another huge success.

“We did it in September this year, we’re going to do it again, because it’s no Rocket Science; it is doable. If they can do it, we have done it in Warri, and we are going to do it again,” Dr Onyemekeihia assured.

Disclosing that the centre needed more experts – Nephrologists, Transplant Surgeons, and many more facilities that would assist to up it’s operations and services to the teeming public, Dr Onyemekeihia posited that government donations and sponsorship would in the end translate to placing Delta State on the map of States with record of practical and visible evidence of commitment to addressing the burden and challenges of kidney diseases to patients through private Centre’s initiative.
