Delta To Sustain Partnership With Churches, Says Oborevwori

THE Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has said his government will continue to partner with the church to sustain the development of the state.

Speaking in Bomadi during the Mass to celebrate the 70th birthday of Most Rev Dr. Hyacinth Oroko Egbebo, Bishop of Bomadi Catholic Diocese, the governor said the church has been the bastion of development not just in Delta State but the nation. He urged the church to continue to guide the government through developmental ideas, support and prayers.

“In times like this, prayers and the support of the church are critical in making governance more meaningful”, the governor who was represented by his Senior Policy Adviser, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, said. He described Bishop Egbebo as an outspoken voice of the voiceless and the oppressed.

Governor Oborevwori said road infrastructure holds the key to development and his passion for developing all of Delta State in a fair manner will not wane.

Listing some of the completed and ongoing projects in the Bomadi area, he said the Ohoro-Bomadi Road, Tamigbe-Torugbene Road as well as the Ayakoromorbridge which is nearing completion as part of the governor pledged that when he is through with his tour of duty as governor, he will bequeath to Delta State the best road infrastructure in Nigeria.

In his homily, the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Ewherido, said it is right, just and fitting to give thanks and praise to God. “Life is a gift we must be grateful for, a gift we must not take for granted. We have to account for what we make of our life as the blessings we receive must be made to count”, he said.

The celebrant, Bishop Egbebo, in his address, thanked the governor for the reconstruction of the Ohoro-Bomadi Road, saying the church will continue to pray the success of his administration.

The celebration was attended by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Benin Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Dr Augustine Obiora Akubueze, Bishop Ewherido, the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Erhudjakpo, who represented by the deputy chief of staff.
