Contrary to speculations that the hosting right for the National Youth Games has been giving to Lagos State, Weekend Pointer can exclusively disclosed that Delta will complete the 4th edition as contained in the memorandum of understanding signed in Ilorin, Kwara State three years ago.
Although, attempt was made by the National Sports Commission to give the hosting right to another state for reasons best known to them, and based on last minute intervention from high places, our sources confirmed that Delta will complete their tenure .
The source who spoke with us yesterday said the whole issue has been settled after the Commission saw reasons with some powerful stakeholders who had to come in to rescue the situation.
It would be recalled that the functioning Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission had cried out in a press conference, appealing to the National Sports Commission to allow Delta State to complete the 4th edition in line with the memorandum of understanding it signed in Ilorin some years ago.
The source also disclosed that Lagos State who has been trying to high Jack the hosting right has soft pedal and may now host the yet to be established U-17/U18
Meanwhile, Lagos State may be confirmed as the winner of the 9th edition which ultimately will come to a close this afternoon, closely followed by Edo State and Delta in that order
With the hosting right intact, Delta may now have a golden opportunity to reclaim their title expected to be won by Lagos in this edition.
The closing ceremony will start by 10:00am this morning and end by 2pm to enable those that matters attend the match between the National team, Super Eagles and their Rwanda counterparts billed for Uyo Stadium.
A competent source revealed that a special flight has been arranged to lift those concerned to Uyo from Asaba after the closing ceremony.
