Delta Police Command Sensitises NYSC Members On Cybercrime

BY PATRICK MGBODO

THE Delta State Police Command has engaged corps members undergoing orientation in the state on critical issues of cybercrime, law enforcement, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.

The lecture, held on October 1, 2025, at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP KayodeEgbetokun, to resuscitate lecture sessions with corps members across the country as part of efforts to prepare them for life after service.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP OlufemiAbaniwonda, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SPEdafe Bright, anchored the interactive session.

He educated the corps members on cybercrime, community policing, police accountability, and the constitutional duties of citizens.

SP Edafe urged the participants to shun crime, avoid violence, and remain good ambassadors of the country. He stressed the importance of honesty, kindness, patriotism, and adherence to the law in their service year and beyond.

Highlighting Section 24 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), he reminded the corps members of their civic responsibilities, including respect for the constitution and its institutions, promoting national interest, and supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace.

On police accountability, SP Edafe assured the corps members that the Command has provided open channels for lodging complaints against police misconduct, including dedicated phone numbers and other accessible platforms.

The session also allowed the corps members to ask questions and make observations, which were addressed by the police team to their satisfaction.
