THE Delta State Police Command has held a strategic security meeting with members of the Bankers’
Forum in the state as part of proactive measures to curb crime during the festive season.
The meeting, convened yesterday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was attended by the
Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Asaba, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, and 39 heads of banks across Delta State.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, CP Abaniwonda underscored the need for financial institutions to strengthen security measures as the ember months often record an influx of people and heightened criminal activities.
The DCP urged banks to deploy advanced and functional CCTV cameras to complement police efforts in monitoring activities around banking environments. He also stressed the need for continuous review of security strategies, given Delta’s boundaries with Edo and other states.
Commending the initiative, the CBN Chief Security Officer, Mrs. Patrick, noted that the apex bank withholds cash supplies from banks that fail to provide adequate police escorts for special movements.
Reassuring stakeholders, DCP Adejobi reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring a crime-free festive period, describing the engagement as one of several proactive steps being taken to safeguard lives and property in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Command would sustain collaboration with stakeholders to guarantee the safety of banking operations and residents throughout the season.
