THE Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Rt. Hon Emomotimi Guwor has again, justified the recent defection of stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) describing it as one of the best decision ever.
The Speaker, who said this, yesterday, in Asaba while fielding questions from journalists during his media briefing on the activities of the State Assembly in the past two years, noted that the mass defection by the PDP stakeholders was in the best interest of the State
He noted that with the current political realignment in the State, the State has now been fully reconnected to happenings at the centre.
He dismissed insinuation in some quarters that following the defection, the State has been plunged into a one-party state.
He, however, said that the defection has further strengthened legislative unity in the State Assembly, stressing that “In the House of Assembly, we are one family”
The Speaker held that in the past 10 years that the State had been in opposition, it suffered some infrastructural and economic challenges as it was being denied of certain privileges.
It would be recalled that recently, the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori alongside critical stakeholders in the then PDP, dumped the party for the ruling APC.
Few days later, all 22 members of the State legislature including the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, followed suit as they unanimously dumped their former party, the PDP for the for the ruling APC.
With the development, all 29 members of the State legislature are now members of APC.
