DCP Adejobi Urges Officers To Uphold Professionalism

THE Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in-charge of Operations at the Delta State Police Command, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has charged officers to uphold professionalism, embrace modern policing and operate within the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

Olumuyiwa gave the charge when he paid a working visit to the Ughelli Area Command in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Received by the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba and senior police officers, he urged officers to be updated with modern policing techniques and conduct themselves in line with the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to Adejobi, the immediate past Force Public Relations Officer “a policeman, whether in uniform or not, is an angel with the responsibilities to guide and protect.

“The uniform you wear represents integrity and compassion, not intimidation and as the police, whether on Patrol and Guard or Rank and File, you represent integrity and compassion, not intimidation of others.

“It is unfortunate that some of us are ashamed of wearing their uniforms in public because the bad eggs have bastardized the job.

“As an officer, I urge you to go for continuous personal development and professional competence to be abreast with the new laws and operational guidelines”, warning that not doing so could amount to “quackery” in the force.

‎“Any police officer who fails to read, learn and understand new directives or laws is a quack in the job, so update yourself so that you can defend any actions taken in the line of duty.”

He cautioned officers against unprofessional acts, such as harassment, extortion and misuse of power, noting that a single misconduct could tarnish the collective image of the entire police force.

“You cannot be making arrests and performing brilliantly on one hand, while another officer somewhere is slapping an innocent person. One bad act can rubbish the good work of a hundred others. That must stop,” he said.

The DCP further encouraged officers to support their leadership, maintain discipline and sustain peaceful relations with communities, especially during the ember months when criminal activities often rise.”

He commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)for his reforms and welfare initiatives aimed at rewarding excellence and promoting professionalism in the force.

While commending the officers of the command that surprised him with a birthday celebration, Adejobi said,“I have never in my career sat in the office to celebrate my birthday.

“I have always been on the field. Today again, I’m still on the field and this surprise from the Ughelli Area Command means a lot to me.”

Earlier in his speech, the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba said “this is the day I have been waiting for and we are excited with the encouragement and lectures we learned.

‎The visit was part of DCP Adejobi’s ongoing tour of police formations across Delta State, aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and boosting the morale of officers.
