THE Delta State Magistrate Court, Asaba, has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Anthony Onuorah, to three months in prison for assaulting and threatening his aged mother, Mrs Esther Onuorah.
Onuorah faced two charges and was found not guilty, but the court ordered that he remain in prison for three months at the request of his mother.
According to the statement, the defendant, on October 24, testified on oath in his defence and denied the alleged charges.
According to count one in the charge sheet, “You, Onyinye Anthony Onuorah, male, 21 years old, on October 21, 2025 at Idumuojei Quarters, Asaba, within the Asaba Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Mrs Esther Onuorah, female, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code, Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.”
Count two reads: “You, Onyinye Anthony Onuorah, on the same date, month, and year, within the aforementioned Magisterial District, did threaten Mrs Esther Onuorah, female, with a cutlass and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.”
The judgment stated that although the defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge and found not guilty, the court ordered that he remain in prison for three months, following his mother’s request for proper scrutiny.
