A yet-to-be-identified corpse has been discovered and recovered from under a bridge in the Uwheru community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Though the report was sketchy, it was learned that the corpse was mutilated when it was recovered from Orhibirhi Bridge along the East/West Road in the Uwheru community.
According to community sources, “When we discovered the dead body, we had to notify the police from the Ughelli Area Command and the Ughelli North Local Government Area.
“We could not identify the deceased because the body was mutilated, and we immediately notified all relevant authorities.’’
Though the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, could not confirm the incident when contacted, as he simply said, “Not aware yet”.
However, a senior security source from the Ughelli Area Command, who spoke on anonymous condition, confirmed the discovery.
The source said, “We were informed that an unidentified lifeless body was discovered at Orhivbirhi Bridge, along the East/West axis in the Uwheru community.
“The corpse could not be identified as the body was butchered beyond recognition; it was discovered that some parts or vital organs of the deceased were allegedly removed.”
“It is suspected to be a case of ritual killing, and the person was killed; the remains were probably dropped at the river by the bridge to avoid suspicion and identification.
“While investigations are ongoing to unravel the cause, we are appealing to communities to report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authorities, “ the source held.
