The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof Epiphany Azinge has warned the staff and students of Asagba Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, against cultism, but urged them to always respect constituted authorities and the law.
Prof Azinge, gave the warning when a delegation of Asagba Mixed Old Students Association (AMOSA) paid him a courtesy visit.
Asagba Prof Azinge noted that the current image of the school with respect to cultism and drug addiction, was despicable, condemnable and unacceptable, warning that it remained a major challenge the school authority must urgently address.
“That school should be a role model secondary school. It has to lead the way because it bears the imprimatur of the stool of Asaba.
“We have some work to do there. But in our own little way, we cannot continuously or deliberately disconnect ourselves from you. I have directed a committee I set up to specifically look into how we can support the institution to the best of our ability, bearing in mind that it is not the only school in Asaba that deserves our attention”, Asagba said.
Addressing the school principal, Mrs Ajufo, who accompanied the delegation, His Royal Majesty said “What I have done by coming to you is to talk to the government through you. That is my approach to reaching the government and I know that they have been reacting. They have responded to you; they have done certain things flowing from my intervention. He thanked the old students for forming the group and urged them to reach out to other school mates across the country and in the diaspora, even as he emphasized that they should be prepared to give back to their alma mater.
Earlier in an address, the President of the association, Mr Abel Donatus, congratulated Prof Azinge on his ascension to the throne, and commended him for his recent visit to the school to see things for himself.
