The Asagba of Asaba, HRM Prof. Epiphany Azinge SAN, has urged residents of Asaba to sustain the existing peace and make Asaba habitable for all, maintaining that he will not tolerate disruption of peace in the capital city.
His Royal Majesty made the call when a delegation of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Asaba branch paid him a courtesy visit.
The monarch emphasized that peace is like an industry needed to be sustained in Asaba because it has continued to attract people from different parts of the country, including investors.
He said “continue to join us in suing for peace in this land because that is the foundation of all that is happening around us. Asaba is growing in leaps and bounds, and I often state that Asaba today, is the fastest growing state capital, not just in Nigeria, but in Africa south of the Sahara. We’ve all made it possible.
“One thing I can say about non-indigenes, including your people, is that they believe in Asaba and they’ve invested so much here. You see people building here and there, which is good. If you don’t find favour here, you won’t invest in the land, so it means that you have shown that you believe in our land and we encourage you.
“For me, the only industry we need in Asaba is peace. Peace will continue to make Asaba an investors’ haven and that’s why people from all parts of Nigeria are coming in on a daily basis in their numbers because of the peace that reigns supreme in our land.
“That’s why I will never tolerate anything that will disrupt the peace in our land because when there is peace, every other good thing will follow. And that is why we go out of our way to reason out of the box to get involved in what ordinarily should be the sphere of influence of government because we have come to the realization that it is not everything that should be left for government”.The monarch said he also believed that the welfare of the people should be a priority, pointing out, however, that the branding of Asaba was topmost in his agenda because he came in at a time the town was notoriously regarded as the headquarters of yahoo yahoo, which was not the right badge for the capital city to wear.
The Asagba thanked UPU Asaba branch for the visit, which he noted symbolized good neighbourliness and clearly defined the group as a stakeholder in the community.
