THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof Epiphany Azinge, has frowned at the convergence of beggars at some strategic points in Asaba.
The Asagba, who visited the Traffic Light roundabout and Koka Junction where the beggars and artisans gathered in their numbers, ordered that they be evacuated to where they could be taken care of.
The monarch said the beggars should be moved to the residence of the Seriki of Arewa community at Cable Point, while the artisans should move to the place provided for them at the Oko junction market axis, with a stern warning that anyone found at the prohibited locations would be arrested.
Azinge said the beggars and artisans posed security risk to the town and were messing up the environment with their open defecation.
He added that they were at the risk of their safety not guaranteed because no one seemed to be in control of them.
He pledged support for any arrangement that would permanently keep the beggars off the streets and called on the leadership of the Arewa community in Asaba to keep him posted on the way forward.
His Royal Majesty stressed that the actions and conducts of those concerned must be accounted for by known persons, even as he explained that though every Nigerian had the right to live in any part of the country, their presence wherever they chose to settle must not impact negatively on the host community and society at large.
The Deputy Seriki, Alhaji Aminu Magaji, who conducted the Asagba round the locations, assured him that steps would be taken to relocate the beggars to where they would be taken care of to stop them from constituting nuisance to the public.
