The Hallowed Chamber of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), on Tuesday, January 13 resonated with legislative activities as members resumed plenary for the 2026 legislative year.
The Chamber which, hitherto, particularly within the past three weeks was devoid of legislative fireworks and the attendant legislative paraphernalia following the long adjournment occasioned by the Yuletide celebration, was a beehive of activities, Tuesday as the lawmakers resumed plenary.
At the resumed plenary, the lawmakers, apparently looking refreshed, sun kissed and energized from the barely one month break, displayed readiness to launch into the new year with increased legislative assignments.
Poised on this, Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmotimi Guwor enjoined the lawmakers to roll up their sleeves for enhanced legislative actions/assignments in the year.
He said, “As we look ahead, the priorities of this House remain clear. We shall continue to focus on the enactment of laws that promote economic growth, peace and security, social welfare, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development.
“We will also intensify our oversight functions to ensure effective implementation of government policies and programmes.
“Dear Colleagues, as we resume legislative business, it is important to reflect on the notable achievements recorded by this 8th Assembly.
“By the grace of God, this House has remained steadfast in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities. We have passed people-oriented bills, adopted critical resolutions, and carried out effective oversight that has contributed meaningfully to improved governance, transparency, and accountability across the State.
“Our Committees have continued to function diligently, engaging Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure compliance with legislative approvals and prudent utilization of public resources.
“These efforts underscore our collective commitment to advancing the welfare and aspirations of the people of Delta State.
Further on the remarks, Guwor said, “dear colleagues, I wish to use this opportunity to sincerely appreciate His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, for his efficient and effective leadership, purposeful governance, and unwavering commitment to the development of our State. His Excellency’s people-focused policies, infrastructural investments, and prudent management of resources have continued to yield tangible dividends across the three senatorial districts. Yesterday, our indefatigable Governor carried out the ground breaking of the construction of a Flyover at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli North Local Government Area. This is irrefutable evidence of good governance by our amiable Governor.
“This Honourable House acknowledges the harmonious working relationship that exists between the Legislature and the Executive, anchored on mutual respect and a shared vision for a stronger and prosperous Delta State. We assure His Excellency of our continued support through sound legislation and constructive oversight, in the best interest of our people.
“As we look ahead, the priorities of this House remain clear. We shall continue to focus on the enactment of laws that promote economic growth, peace and security, social welfare, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development. We will also intensify our oversight functions to ensure effective implementation of government policies and programmes.
“Distinguished Colleagues, I urge us to approach the remaining part of the Third Session with renewed vigour, unity of purpose, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Let our debates be robust but respectful, our engagements constructive, and our decisions guided solely by the collective interest of Deltans”
