APC Gains Prominent Woman Leader In Ekuku-Agbor

IN a bold and symbolic political move, the former Woman Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 5, Ekuku-Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mrs Vero Oturukwu, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Her defection, which took place during the Delta State Widows’ Welfare Scheme ATM Card Distribution Ceremony held in Ekuku-Agbor, marks a significant realignment in the grassroots political landscape of the community.

Mrs Oturukwu, a well-known political mobiliser and respected voice among women in the ward, declared her move in the presence of party faithful and local stakeholders.

She openly expressed her loyalty to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area, Engr Jerry Ehiwarior.

“I am not one to hide where I stand. My loyalty is clear. Anywhere Governor Sheriff, and Chairman Jerry go, I go. They are leaders I trust, leaders who listen to the people, and who have touched lives across Delta State,” Mrs Oturukwu declared.

She praised both leaders for their people-oriented policies and visible impact, particularly in rural communities such as Ekuku-Agbor. According to her, the ongoing Widows’ Welfare Scheme and other grassroots empowerment programmes are clear signs that the government is placing people at the centre of development.

“It’s not just about politics for me. It’s about who is doing the work, who is delivering results, and who is putting the people first,” she added.

Mrs Oturukwu’s defection was warmly received by APC leaders and supporters, who hailed her courage and described her entry into the party as a major gain. Many believe her grassroots influence, particularly among women and youth, will further strengthen the APC’s position in Ward 5 and beyond.

Speaking on behalf of the APC Ward 5 leadership at the event, Ezinne (Mrs) Cecilia Ogbonyeri described Mrs Oturukwu as “a pillar of strength and a woman of substance,” adding that her move sends a strong message that the APC is growing stronger by the day.

“We are not just welcoming a decampee; we are welcoming a leader, a mobiliser, and a woman who commands genuine respect in the community,” she said.

The event, which also served as a moment of empowerment for widows through the distribution of ATM cards for the welfare scheme, ended on a celebratory note with songs, chants, and renewed hope for a more inclusive political movement under the APC in Ekuku-Agbor.

As 2027 approaches, political analysts believe more grassroots leaders may follow suit, particularly those aligning their support with leaders delivering tangible results in their constituencies.
