Amori Leads Niger Delta States’ Thanksgiving, Donates ₦17.2m To Church With Unmatched Transparency

By Joelson Eboh

The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori, on Sunday, joined other faithful at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin City, for the Ethnic Pre-Harvest Thanksgiving of the Niger Delta States.

The event, held as part of the church’s mid-year thanksgiving programme, was a colourful celebration of faith and culture, with worshippers adorned in their traditional attires to mark the Ethnic Day. It was organized to thank God for His blessings over the first half of the year 2025.

Senator Amori, while addressing the congregation, expressed gratitude to his friends, political associates, and supporters who responded to his call for financial support towards the thanksgiving.

In an extraordinary show of transparency, the Chief Adviser publicly read out the names of contributors and the amounts donated, stating, “In appreciation of their kindness and to the glory of God, it is only right I acknowledge everyone who supported this cause.”

The congregation responded with cheers and praises, commending Senator Amori’s open and accountable approach. An attendee who chose to remain anonymous remarked, “There are people who wouldn’t have announced the full donations. I used to be one of such, but Senator Amori has shown a different example today.”

Senator Amori presented a cheque of ₦17.2 million to the church, representing the total amount raised on behalf of himself, his family, staff of his office, and his three constituent groups: traditional, business, and political.

In his remarks, Amori declared, “Today, I’ll show you why I’m a politician,” a statement that resonated with the congregation as a testimony of purposeful leadership and dedication to the service of God.

Senator Amori used the opportunity to extend his special appreciation to several key personalities and institutions who contributed to the success of the thanksgiving. They include the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his exemplary leadership; his Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Chief Festus Keyamo; Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo; Senator Ede Dafinone; Senator Ned Nwoko; Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu; Rt. Hon. Francis Waive; Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata; Chief Festus Ochonogor; Pastor Godwin Akpovie; Hon. Paul Adingwupu; Chief Fidelis Tilije; Chief Sunday Onoriode; Traditional Rulers, and Chief John Oguma.

He also acknowledged the Chief of Staff to the Delta State Government, Hon. Johnson Erijo; Members of the State Executive Council; Council Chairmen of Ethiope West, Ethiope East, Uvwie, and Ughelli South; and many other political associates and supporters too numerous to mention.

Senator Amori gave special thanks to His Royal Majesty, Igbi I, Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, who, despite being on holiday in the United States, sent in a generous donation of ₦2m in support of the thanksgiving.

In his prayers, Rev. Fr. Joseph Bolokor thanked God for the life of the Chief Adviser and for God’s continuous blessings on him and all that supported him in the thanksgiving.

The thanksgiving was a joyous celebration of unity, accountability, and generosity, with many describing it as a reflection of Senator Amori’s commitment to using his office for the benefit of both God and humanity.
