The Acting Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (DSPG), Dr. Mrs. Erere Anho, has charged newly admitted students of the institution to commit themselves to discipline and strict adherence to the Polytechnic’s code of conduct as a foundation for academic success.
Dr. Anho gave the charge while delivering her address at the 24th matriculation ceremony of the Polytechnic, which formally ushered the 2025/26 intakes into the academic community of the institution, today.
Welcoming dignitaries, parents, guardians and students to the ceremony, the Acting Rector described the matriculation as a significant milestone that marks the official admission of the students and their acceptance of the rules, values and traditions of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. She congratulated the matriculating students for meeting the admission requirements and earning a place in the institution.
She reminded the students that by taking the matriculation oath, they had pledged to uphold discipline, integrity, respect for authority and compliance with institutional regulations, urging them to reflect these values in their conduct at all times.
Dr. Anho emphasized the Polytechnic’s commitment to academic excellence, character development, entrepreneurship and innovation, while warning that misconduct such as examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, vandalism and indecent behaviour would attract severe sanctions. She advised the students to remain focused on their studies, attend lectures regularly, utilize the library and laboratories effectively, and maintain healthy academic relationships with lecturers and peers.
She further urged students to participate actively in the Polytechnic’s entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and innovation programmes to enhance self-reliance and relevance in the competitive global environment.
Dr. Anho appreciated parents and guardians for their support, assuring them of Management’s commitment to providing a safe, conducive and academically stimulating environment. She reaffirmed the institution’s resolve to uphold academic standards, improve infrastructure, enhance staff welfare and maintain a stable academic calendar.
She concluded by urging the matriculating students to conduct themselves with dignity, pursue excellence and serve as worthy ambassadors of their families and the Polytechnic, wishing them a successful and fulfilling academic journey.
The Acting Registrar of the institution, Mrs Christiana Edogie congratulated the new students, stating that the event ushered them into a new chapter of their lives, while also appealing to them to celebrate with restraint and decorum.
Some of the matriculating students were visibly excited at the event saying it is a dream come true. Endurance Aluja, a National Diploma student of the Fashion and Design department, stated that the ceremony marked a new milestone in his life, while revealing that DSPG was the only tertiary institution around that offered his choice of course.
The high point of the matriculation ceremony was the oath taking by the new students, which was administered by the Registrar and also the symbolic signing of the student’s register.
