DTSG Plans Power Supply Expansion

Assures Residents Of Fair Distribution

BY STELLA OPUTAH

THE Delta State Government has assured Deltans of its commitment to the even distribution of power supply across all parts of the state.

The Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Michael Anoka gave the assurance during a familiarization tour of some facilities under the ministry.

Anoka said that the governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is passionate about improving power supply to boost socio-economic activities and enhance security across the state.

He disclosed that the state was working to increase the capacity of the Asaba Independent Power Plant (IPP) by 15 megawatts.

The additional capacity will complement the existing 8.5 megawatts currently generated by the power plant.

According to him, the expansion will also generate increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the state.

He explained that third parties would be able to purchase the surplus power generated by the IPP.

Facilities visited during the tour included two 500KVA generators at the Commissioner’s and Permanent Secretary’s official quarters. Also inspected were lift trucks located within the ministry’s premises.

The commissioner was accompanied on the tour by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Byron Unini. Also present was the Director of Renewable and Alternative Energy, Mr. Austin Unabor.
