- Hands Over CNG-Buses To NURTW
BY PATRICK MGBODO
THE cost of road transportation in Delta State is set to drop significantly with the arrival of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses supplied by the Federal Government.
The buses, delivered today in Asaba to the leadership of the Delta State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), are in fulfilment of President Bola Tinubu’s promise to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
The Pointer reports that the five CNG buses delivered to Delta State were provided by the Federal Government through the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Addressing journalists during the handover ceremony, the Secretary-General of the Delta State chapter of the NURTW, Comrade Chukwuemeka Okolo, said the buses were also distributed to other states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said the buses would be deployed across the state’s three geopolitical zones, assuring Deltans that they would significantly reduce transportation costs, being powered by both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
‘’Deltans should rally around President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections to ensure that he is re-elected to finish the good works he has started. We are expecting more of such buses from him, and we believe that when he is re-elected, he will consolidate’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the state Caretaker Committee Chairman, Comrade Patrick Okpandu, who received the buses, thanked President Tinubu and the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), even as he pledged to deploy them for their intended use.
Others who spoke during the handover meeting are a member of the National Trustees, Comrade Dennis Araro; Comrade Orji Ossai, Comrade Igbine Odomero, Comrade Ovo Abeke, and Comrade Peter Ojevwue.
They applauded President Tinubu for the buses and for recognising them as the authentic leadership of the NURTW in Delta State, even as they expressed confidence that more vehicles would be delivered to the state.
