Delta Govt Commends BEDC For CSR Initiative

…As Electricity Company Donates Waste Drums To Environ Ministry

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has been highly commended for donating 60 waste drums which are of the highest quality, to the Delta State Ministry of Environment, Asaba.

Managing Director/Chief Executive of BEDC, Engr. Lawani Jonathan, represented at the donation of the valued items by the Chief Revenue Cycle Manager, Mr. Collins Igwe, made the presentation to Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani in Asaba, on Tuesday.

Lawani noted that BEDC takes the welfare and well-being of its customers very seriously, thus the electricity company sees environmental well-being and sustainability as one of the key ways to give back to its customer base in the discharge of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

He expressed hope that the waste drums will go a long way in assisting the ministry to keep Delta clean.

The BEDC helmsman said Delta State occupies a special place in its operations, being responsible for about 40 per cent of its revenue, while he recalled that the electricity company had earlier carried out other CSR initiatives in the state, such as donation of books and other learning materials to schools across the state.

Responding, the Environment Commissioner in the state, Mr. Ejiro Jamani said he was moved to give BEDC a pat on the back for their thoughtfulness and responsiveness to the modern demands of environmental sanitation and protection. He described the donation as timely as it coincided with plans by the ministry to acquire more of such waste drums for distribution across the state.

Jamani who asked the BEDC team to extend his warm regards to the BEDC MD/CEO, describing him as a senior colleague, promised that the items would be judiciously distributed to strategic locations to ensure that they are put to good use.

He thanked BEDC for further helping the Ministry of Environment to realize its mandate which is a key aspect of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda anchored on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All Deltans, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security.

In conclusion, Jamani urged other corporate giants and members of the organized private sector to emulate BEDC.
