College Of Commerce Alumni, Monarch Donate Books To Varsity

CLASS of 1977 of College Of Commerce, Warri, in conjunction with HRM (Dr.) Richard Oghenevwogaga Ebelle, Ovie of Agbarha-Otor kingdom, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have donated books worth millions of naira to Southern Delta University, Oreorokpe Campus.

Chief David Ejukonemu, who spoke on behalf of the donors in his keynote address, explained that the gesture was made so as to add value to the students, as well as compliment Governor Sheriff Oborevwori‘s advancement of education in Delta State.

He noted that the donation christened ‘Books For Africa‘ was initiated in the United States of America.

While promising that the institution will get more donation, Ejukonemu charged the university to make good use of them.

The Provost of the Orerokpe Campus, Prof. Akpovughaye Taiga, expressed profound gratitude to the donors.

He said books are more than printed pages and are vessels of knowledge, inspiration and discovery. Akpovughaye noted that books shape minds, strengthen scholarship and open doors.

“Your donation, therefore, is not just merely an act of giving but an investment in the intellectual growth and future of our students and researchers.” he added.

The Provost stated that “as we incorporate these books, we assure you that they will be properly utilized and cherished.” He had noted that some of the donors were alumni of University of Ibadan.

Prince Godwin Ejiyeren, who represented HRM Major Gen. Felix Mudjakperuo (rtd), Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, who spoke at a brief reception for the donors at the office of the Provost, was full of praises for the donors. He also appreciated Governor Oborevwori for the establishment of the campus and his laudable achievements in all sectors across Delta State .

The Deputy Dean of Students Affairs of the university campus, Dr. James Ighorodje, noted that the gesture is most needed most by the university community and that the group was the first to make such donation.

The Librarian, Dr. Chukwuma Emeri, remarked that the books are relevant to the university and assured that students would make good use of them.

Members of the group included the Proprietor of Riser Schools, Effurun, Mr. Matthew Olomu, Mr. Richard Ederi, among others.
