Udu Harbour Market Completed ––Oligida

  • Praises Contractor For Quality Project

Delta State Commissioner for Trade and Investments, Mr. Samuel Oligida, today expressed both joy and relief at the Udu Harbour Market, during a tour of the project, declaring with excitement that the award of the market has been completed, while heaping praises on the contractor, Mr. Innocent Ayuba for a job well done.

Oligida who appreciated God for using the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to complete the project awarded in 2006, was accompanied during the visit to the Udu Harbour Market by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS) in the ministry, Mrs. Ruth Orioko-Awa and the project consultant, Arc. Emmanuel Aguke (Nisi Consultants), a representative of the Ministry of Housing, among others.

The Trade and Investments Commissioner said that the site meeting held yesterday in Udu was the final of such meetings, adding that the purpose of the meeting was to ascertain whether to issue a certificate of completion to the contractor.

He said that having seen that the project has been completed to satisfaction, the contractor would now get his certificate of completion.

Oligida who asked the consultant to give his remarks during the site meeting, said that after listening to the consultant and from his personal observations, it was clear that the contractor, Mr. Innocent Ayuba has done a lot. “I will give him the kudos. He has broken a jinx and proved critics wrong. I appreciate everyone that started this project for the collective effort, including the Ministry of Housing, the consultant and all others for doing the needful. This project is a source of pride to us all and we have achieved what they thought we will not achieve. It was God that used the Governor to complete the project for the people of Udu”, Oligida said.

Oligida however said that in line with industry practice, there will be a five per cent retention for a period of six months, in order to ensure that no flaws exist or will come up and if they do, will be taken care of with the retention sum.

The DPRS, Mrs. Orioko-Awa re-affirmed that the contractor has met expectations, adding that all the areas pointed out by the governor during an earlier visit had been taken care of by the contractor.

The contractor, Mr. Ayuba said during an interview with The Pointer that while he did not wish to blow his own trumpet, the project completion was the culmination of three years of hardwork and dedication to delivering a quality project in line with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.

Ayuba disclosed that the Udu Harbour Market comprises several lock up and open stores, making it the biggest in the state, as well as an abattoir and a night market.

Ayuba affirmed that his firm is very capable and willing to continue executing quality work in other areas of the Udu harbour market site, if found worthy.
