The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State Wing, Comrade Poubeni Dickson, has called for synergy between the union and the Delta State Teachers’ Social Security and Investment Scheme (DSTSSIS) to enhance the welfare of teachers in the state.
The chairman made this call during a courtesy visit by the DSTSSIS board members to his office at the Teachers’ House in Asaba.
Comrade Dickson expressed gratitude to the founders of the DSTSSIS, who established the scheme to liberate teachers from the burden of taking loans from banks and other financial institutions, by assisting teachers at retirement, and serving as a springboard for retirees.
He urged the board members to work in synergy with his office to achieve the objectives and growth of the body, appealing to them to see the scheme as their own and cooperate with the trustees to ensure its success.
Comrade Dickson also expressed optimism that the proposed increment on loans to 5 per cent would come to fruition for the benefit of not only teachers, but other relevant stakeholders in the scheme.
Earlier, the chairman of the board, Comrade Francis Isiza,flanked by the State Secretary, Comrade Dan Basime had congratulated the brand new chairman , Comrade Dickson on his emergence as the Chairman of the state wing of the NUT. While appealing to the NUT Chairman to review the transport welfare of teachers, considering the current economic challenges in the country, he disclosed that the board had invested in business infrastructure in Abraka to expand the frontiers and capital base of the body in the state.
The Deputy Chairman of the board, Comrade Patrick Esiovwo, appreciated Comrade Poubeni for the warm reception and reiterated the commitment of the board to work closely with the NUT to enhance the welfare of teachers in the state.
