World Food Day: Oborevwori Pushes For Innovation, Partnerships In Agriculture

BY JUDITH OBIANUA

THE Delta State Government has urged farmers to embrace innovation, form cooperatives, and take full advantage of government support as the MORE Agenda was committed to repositioning the agricultural sector as a key driver of growth, food security, and employment.

This was made known by the Governor, the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, during the commemoration of the 2025 World Food Day, held at the Cenotaph, Asaba, with  the theme: “Hand in Hand for a Better Life and a Better Future.”

In his address, the Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibuogwu, stressed that a farmer without support cannot prosper, and a society that cannot feed itself cannot truly claim peace or progress.

He emphasised that Delta State is not a state that only consumes food but one that was determined to become a leading producer, processor, and exporter.

He noted that one of the goals of the MORE Agenda is to empower farmers by providing inputs, extension services, and access to finance in order to make agriculture profitable and attractive to young people.

Oborevwori noted that Delta was open to strategic private sector partnerships that connect farmers to factories and markets, investing in knowledge and innovation by training a new generation of farmers equipped with modern, climate-smart technologies to increase productivity while safeguarding the environment. He added that this year’s theme serves as a reminder that transformation was possible through partnership.

In the same vein, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Ada Val Arenyeka, Esq., said this year’s theme  was a reminder of the central role food plays in people’s lives, not just as a source of nourishment, but also as the backbone of the economy, health, and collective future of the state.

He highlighted the benefit of the celebration as an inspiration to reaffirm commitment to food security, create greater awareness about healthy diets, and strengthen partnerships that empower farmers. He said the visionary leadership of Governor Oborevwori had demonstrated strong determination through the MORE Agenda to reposition the agricultural sector and make it a key driver of growth and development, while addressing issues of hunger and unemployment in the state.
