A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has enjoined households to be participants and join in celebrating the World Clean-up Day exercise for a healthy environment.
This call was made in an exercise to mark the World Clean-up Day organised by ACE Recycles in collaboration with CODAF, ACERD and NEDi, held in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The organisations disclosed that collecting waste and plastics from the streets and transporting them to waste centres will boost and transform the economy.
According to the founder of ACE Recycles, Grace Ndobu, “Ace Recycles is an emerging force aimed at transforming local clean-up exercises into a practical demonstration of the circular economy.
“When you collect and separate plastics, cans and paper from your regular food waste, you are not just keeping but saving your environment. A clean environment is not just a moral duty; it is a foundation for societal well-being and a source of income.
“We are using the platform to engage directly with residents, educating them on the tangible benefits of proper waste segregation and recycling. And we are encouraging households to start from their homes by simply sorting waste and partnering with local recyclers like ACE.
“The beauty of recycling is that it pays you while saving the environment. Even if all you make from it is to buy mobile data, it’s still something gained. The clean-up exercise is targeted at streets, major roads, and the bubbling Otovwodo market would serve as a large-scale collection centre for ACE Recycles.
“I want to commend the support from the Ughelli North Local Government chairman for bringing this exercise to a sustainable success; the provision of logistics and resources was instrumental in bringing this event to fruition. “We are eager to sustain this collaboration for the lasting benefit of our environment.” Ndobu disclosed.
On her part, the Head of Department (Environment), Ughelli North, Sanitarian Ikpibako Victory, who commended the initiative of ACE Recycle, said, “The collaboration with CODAF and ACE Recycle is laudable.
“This has reinforced our public awareness campaigns, reminding people that hygiene is closely tied to godliness and, as ACE has shown, to economic opportunity.” Others who spoke during the exercise, Benin Richard of CODAF and Nowho Fred ACERD, emphasised the need for stricter government laws and daily commitment to cleanliness.
Their calls for policy change provided a vital backdrop to ACE Recycles’ on-the-ground, practical solution, positioning the enterprise as an actor in turning advocacy into actionable, profitable environmentalism.
“The exercise has demonstrated that the path to a cleaner Ughelli and Delta State is not only through government regulation and citizen awareness but through the innovative, sustainable business models championed by enterprises like ACE Recycles’’ they said.
