THE Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Hon (Mrs.) Rose Ezewu has commended the Zenith Bank Plc. for their commitment to the sponsorship of the Zenith Bank/Delta State Principals’ Cup which is running its eight edition this year.
The Commissioner said that the commitment of the bank to the agreement for the game has been unflinching and quite encouraging as they have never relented in the partnership but see it as a social responsibility owed the people and has been very much faithful to the letters without any iota of doubt.
She expressed her gratitude to the organization as well as the good spirit of the Consultant, Mr. Tony Pemu who has been deeply involved working day and night to see the success of the event since its inception till date. She noted that the pressure of the level of success recorded in the tournament since its beginning till now has been enormous and she appreciates their resilient spirit and mind set as very determined persons who are determined to resist anything whatsoever that would want to hinder them from succeeding.
Ezewu asserted that the most beautiful part of the Principals’ Cup is the mouthwatering results that have kept hope alive as the games have produced very encouraging players that are playing in great Clubs outside the shores of the nation, precisely in Russia and Denmark which justifies the essence of the football tournament as there are very clear evidences to the effect.
The Zonal Head of Zenith Bank in the Zone, Dr. Ifeanyi Atamah said that the Bank is delighted that they are performing their social responsibility with proper vision and has been very much pleased with the testimonies received on the exploits of some of the players discovered from the tournament.
He particularly expressed commitment to the games nothing that it is only in Delta State that they are sponsoring such a sport but they are glad that the game has continued despite challenges and assured that his office would continue to be relevant in any good area of life.
The Zonal Head observed that the football competition is creating a sense of wellbeing for the students and the entire school community alive as they all create fun in the process and have avenues to make good friends and better relationship among themselves and equally ensure that they derive joy in their ventures but with keen focus on their drive which primarily, is to compete and win.
The Consultant who created and established the Cup in 2017, Mr. Tony Pemu expressed joy that the Cup is moving with forward with more experience on how to improve the games by the day as has been observed in the course of the games.
He maintained that so many changes have been made in order to improve on the administration of the games over the past seven years and new methods have been devised to ensure that cheating in all ramifications are reduced to the barest minimal.
Pemu disclosed that the 2025 Principals’ Cup has new prize money for the winners of the trophies outside the new bus that is given to the first position.
He said that the new prize money is now two million naira (2m) for the first position while the second position will receive one million, five hundred naira (1.5M) . The third position will receive one million naira (1m) while the fourth position will receive five hundred thousand naira only.
