Laws Now Fully Digitalized In Delta —Oborevwori

BY ISHARO ODAFE

DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has disclosed that all laws governing the state have been fully digitized and made available online for free access by lawyers, researchers and the public.

Oborevwori made the disclosure in Asaba during the first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) to be hosted in the South-South.

Represented by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), the governor outlined several reforms undertaken by his administration in the judicial sector, including the completion of the six-storey Delta State High Court Complex, described as one of the most modern in the country, with multiple courtrooms, lounges, e-filing and e-payment systems, and a digital library.

He also highlighted the installation of virtual court hearing facilities at the correctional centres in Warri and Ogwashi-Uku, in addition to those already operational in the Asaba, Effurun, Warri and Ughelli judicial divisions of the Delta State High Court. Powered by solar energy, the facilities are designed to fast-track criminal proceedings and reduce delays caused by moving inmates from prisons to courtrooms.

Governor Oborevwori added that plans are underway to extend the facilities to high courts in Sapele, Oghara, Abraka, Orerokpe, Isiokolo and Koko judicial divisions. The government is also working to provide courts with verbatim recording equipment to automatically capture proceedings and ease the workload of judicial officers.

He said these reforms are part of the MORE Agenda, which also includes grassroots empowerment programmes such as the Delta State Youth Empowerment Programme (DSYEP), the MORE Grant Scheme and the MORE ICT Care Programme. These initiatives, he noted, are designed to create economic opportunities, promote self-reliance and empower citizens across the state.

The Governor further listed the installation of solar-powered virtual court facilities at correctional centres in Warri and Ogwashi-Uku, with plans for statewide expansion, and the introduction of verbatim recording equipment to reduce the workload of judicial officers.

These initiatives, he noted, are designed to create economic opportunities, promote self-reliance and empower citizens across the state.

The Governor commended JUSUN for choosing Delta State for its historic session, describing it as evidence of the cordial relationship between the union and the state government.

In his remarks, JUSUN’s National President, Comrade Marwan Adamu, who led the national leadership to the state, said Delta was chosen in recognition of its infrastructural growth and worker-friendly policies.

Comrade Adamu explained that the quarterly NEC meeting was used to review national developments, the judiciary, and the welfare of members

He explained that the quarterly NEC meeting serves as a platform to assess national and judicial issues as well as the welfare of union members.

Adamu commended the Delta State Government for executing projects without borrowing for over two years, timely salary payments, prompt promotions of workers, and the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage.
