DELTA State’s Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Jamani Tommy Ejiro, has reiterated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across all 25 local government areas of the state.
The affirmation came to the fore, weekend, during the supervision of the sanitation exercise in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
During the event, Jamani emphasized the importance of community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, saying, “Governor Oborevwori understands that a clean environment is crucial for the health and wellbeing of our people. His administration is dedicated to ensuring that these monthly sanitation exercises are not just a formality but a vital part of our collective responsibility towards environmental sustainability.”
Endorsing the environmental sustainability initiatives in Isoko South, the Chairman, Comrade Warri Friday told newsmen, while supervising the exercise, that sanitation involves the active participation of residents as he encourages them to take ownership of their surroundings.
According to him, “it entails combating waste accumulation and promoting hygiene across the state. It is not enough to clean up your environment once a month; we must cultivate a culture of cleanliness and environmental stewardship in our daily lives”.
“We are working on policies that will not only improve waste management but also create awareness about the importance of protecting our natural resources,” he added.
Residents of Oleh expressed their appreciation for the government’s efforts, noting that the monthly sanitation exercise had significantly improved the wellness of their environment.
“We are grateful for the support from the state government. It has brought us together as a communityand we are more aware of our role in keeping our environment clean,” said a local resident.
