THE Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Warri Zone, has uncovered an illegal baby factory operating under the guise of a hospital along Orhuwhorun Road in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Chairman of the zone, Dr. Djebah Bright confirmed the discovery during one of the association’s routine monitoring exercises aimed at identifying unregistered health facilities and tackling medical quackery in the region.
According to him, the facility was managed by unqualified individuals and had four babies in its custody at the time of inspection.
“We were on our routine monthly monitoring exercise to identify medical quacks and illegal facilities when we stumbled on this operation,” he said.
The association promptly alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the facility’s operator and an auxiliary nurse, who was found feeding the babies.
“The owner of the illegal facility and one of her auxiliary nurses were taken into custody by the police,” he confirmed.
Dr. Djebahfurther revealed that the rescued infants have since been relocated to an orphanage in Asaba, where they are now receiving proper care.
“The babies are currently safe and being cared for at a secure orphanage in Asaba,” he added.
He reaffirmed the NMA’s commitment to safeguarding public health by exposing quacks and shutting down unregistered, unsafe medical establishments across the state.
