The Rotary Club of Effurun, District 9141, has installed Rotarian Elvis Omoifo Irefo as its 41st President.
The installation ceremony, held at the Great Hall, Chevron Recreation Centre, Warri, was attended by Rotarians and friends of the club.
In his address, the newly installed President, Rotarian Elvis Omoifo Irefo, announced that the club has earmarked ₦50 million to execute its community service projects for the 2025/2026 Rotary year. He appealed to Rotarians and friends of the club to donate generously to ensure the successful execution of the projects.
Rotarian Irefo outlined key projects planned for the year, including: the monthly polio exercise; training of young men and women in various vocations; tree planting to beautify major streets in the communities and surrounding areas; adult literacy programmes; water borehole projects in some communities; maternal and child health initiatives; and the construction of a District Training Centre, among others.
Earlier, in her valedictory speech, the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Effurun, Rotarian Florence Chukwuebuni, said the club received several honours during her tenure as the 40th President, including the Rotary International Excellence Award and District awards, following the successful execution of several projects that aligned with Rotary’s seven areas of focus.
She thanked members for their massive support and cooperation during her tenure and highlighted some of the projects carried out under her leadership. These included: vocational training in five skills for 100 individuals at the club’s Vocational Training Centre in Ebrumede; donation of two mono pump water boreholes to Mammi 4 in Effurun, benefiting over 600 individuals; donation of writing materials to students of JSS 1–3 at Alegbor Secondary School, Effurun; provision of delivery kits to 40 pregnant women at Alaka Health Centre, Uvwie Local Government Area; collaboration with two other clubs to provide food items to 600 households; 1,000 free medical diagnoses and treatments; distribution of mosquito nets and clothing to 1,000 individuals; and empowerment of 10 petty traders with ₦100,000 each to boost their businesses.
Rotarian Chukwuebuni urged members to extend the same support to her successor, assuring them that Rotarian Irefo would build on the achievements already recorded and take the club to greater heights.
The Special Guest of Honour, Rotarian George Owarieta, in his lecture, enlightened guests on Rotary International and the achievements of the Rotary Club of Effurun.
He noted that the club has contributed significantly to improving the lives of people in its mandate area and appealed to guests and friends of the club to contribute generously towards the execution of its projects.
For his part, the Chairman of the event, Mr Emmanuel Okudor, announced after observing the club’s activities that he would become a Rotarian in order to join in the service of humanity. He also joined in soliciting financial support for the club’s projects. The installation ceremony featured donations towards the club’s community service projects, inauguration of board members, and presentation of cheques to micro-credit loan beneficiaries, among other highlights.
