STUDENTS and staff of Emuhu Secondary School in Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, have benefited from a generous donation by Dr. and Mrs. Gabriel Mbadiwe Mabatah through their MGF Foundation. The couple donated a modern six-unit toilet facility, a solar-powered-water borehole with a backup generator, and CCTV surveillance cameras.
The project, widely applauded by the community, was commissioned by the Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, was represented by the Chief Inspector of Education (ICE), Ika South local government, Mr. Idume Enahoro. The ceremony drew elders, stakeholders, and development advocates from across the community.
In her remarks, Mrs. Ezewu, through her representative, lauded the Mabatahs for their selfless contribution.
“They have shown that education extends beyond the classroom. A healthy learning environment requires proper sanitation, and this donation directly promotes the health, dignity, and well-being of students and staff,” she said.
She emphasized the role of individuals in national development, stressing that the government cannot do it alone.
“This project proves that when communities and individuals collaborate with the government, great strides are possible. I urge the school to protect and maintain these facilities, and encourage other members of the Emuhu community to emulate the Mabatahs’ example,” she added.
In his address, Principal of the school, Mr. Jerry Brown-Onyeator, described the project as a major relief for students and staff, addressing key issues of hygiene and health.
“The water borehole ensures access to clean water, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases, while the modern toilets provide a private and dignified space for students. This is a huge boost to our learning environment,” he said. He praised the Mabatahs for their enduring commitment to Emuhu, despite living far away, and pledged to maintain the facilities. He also used the occasion to appeal to other well-meaning indigenes to support the school with a perimeter fence, an administrative block, and a lawn mower for grounds maintenance.
Also speaking, Mrs. Rosemary Kwubasu and Mr. Eustace Eluroma, Secretary, Pathfinders Club of Emuhu, expressed gratitude to the donors, describing the gesture as a testament to the Mabatahs’ charitable hearts and deep ties to their roots.
